Advanced Monologue

Instructor: Denis Butkus

(Macbeth at The Duke)

This class is designed for experienced actors to build a monologue portfolio. Over the course of 10 weeks, you will learn and polish four contrasting monologues: two contemporary American and two classical, drawing from the contemporary plays of Adam Rapp, Lucy Thurber, Annie Baker, Keith Reddin, and Craig Lucas, as well as the classical texts of Shakespeare and the Greeks. Denis will work with you to choose pieces that highlight your strengths and coach you through them until they are performance-ready. The class will culminate in a mock audition before a panel of industry professionals, where you will present the two monologues that best showcase your unique interpretation of the text. This class is ideal for working professionals auditioning for graduate programs or simply looking to build their repertoire.

For returning and advanced students only.
