Alexander Technique

Instructor: Karen Braga

(Acting Faculty, NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts)

The Alexander Technique teaches performers how to release habitual tension and discover performance presence. Through experiential anatomy, movement studies, and vocal warm-ups, this 8-week class allows actors to explore how they are designed to move, breathe, speak, and emote. You will learn how to embody your voice and speak from the heart, bringing characters alive with physical, vocal, and emotional freedom. The last hour of each class is devoted to applying what you learn to Shakespearean text, contemporary monologues, scenes, or songs. The Alexander Technique is a reliable solution for stage fright, vocal or physical problems, or simply a desire to cultivate a deeper connection to oneself. Karen’s gentle hands-on approach and playful spirit encourages performers to risk and reach. Come prepared to move!
