This 5-week class will apply the skills acquired in Dialects 1 to a variety of accents from the American South, including both hard and soft “r” southern accents. You will also consider the accents in racial and historical contexts, learning how to determine which southern accent is appropriate for different characters in different plays. Specific accents will include those from: Charlotte, NC; the Mississippi Delta; Georgia; New Orleans; and Texas. You will leave this class prepared to take on any role with a Southern accent.
