Dialects 2

Instructor: Jane Guyer Fujita

(Acting Lecturer, Yale School of Drama)

Dialect and accent are definitive to a character, indicating geography, time period, socio-economic background, culture, and individual personality. This 5-week class will apply the skills acquired in Dialects 1 to a Scottish accent, using essential tools including the International Phonetic Alphabet, vocal posture, resonance, rhythm, music, lilt, and overall physicality to refine your dialect. Once proficient, you will apply the accent to the performance of text, fusing your dialect with your acting instincts and allowing you to completely inhabit the speech of a character. You will leave the class prepared to take on a role in the Scottish accent.

PREREQUISITE: Dialects 1 or permission from the instructor.

Tuesdays from 5:00pm – 6:30pm

April 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1
