Writing Intensive: The Generator

Instructor: Winter Miller

(Writer, In Darfur at The Public Theater)

Ready to jump head-first into your next playwriting project? Not just jump. How about go for a double-somersault-pike off the high dive? Everybody into the pool!

Geared toward writers with prior experience, this intensive will provide full creative immersion and compel you to put pen to page for a 3-day writing marathon. The majority of time will be spent churning out pages in the company of fellow artists with a shared goal of generating a lot of new work. This is not a reading aloud kind of workshop. Writing exercises ranging from the playful to the risk-driven will punctuate the three days, keeping your writing fresh, slaying your inhibitions, and busting creative channels wide open. Plus, an overnight assignment will keep your momentum spinning from one day to the next.

You will have one in-class consultation with Winter to discuss your project. Walk in on Friday evening with a clear and open mind, and walk out Sunday afternoon with a jump start on your next play and fresh ideas pouring out of you faster than you can scribble.

Come in with nothing, or just the seed of an idea for a new play. If you’ve just begun a play and you’re less than 25 pages in, you can work on that project. Bring a notebook, writing implements, and if you like, a laptop. Please wear comfortable clothing. There will be snacks. Bring your own lunch both days.

Friday, June 29 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Saturday, June 30 from 11:00am – 6:00pm
Sunday, July 1 from 12:00pm – 6:00pm
