Site-Specific Directing

This is a 10-week, hands-on directing lab designed to expand the imagination and shatter traditional notions of staging. Each week, class will be held in a specific, flexible, and possibly changeable location that will be anywhere but inside a classic theater. Past sites have ranged from Central Park to Lincoln Center, from DUMBO to the High Line. This diversity will empower you to re-imagine your concepts of staging and create theater anywhere. By working with actors and staging pieces from William Shakespeare to Sarah Kane in unconventional locations, you will begin to discover the inherent theatricality in everything. This class culminates in a public presentation of new 10-minute plays directed by you in a site-specific location.
Sundays from 1:00pm – 4:00pm
October 21, 28, November 4, 11, 18, 25, December 2, 9, 16
*This class will meet for 10 sessions. The date for the 10th class will be chosen as a group during the first class session.
