Auditioning for Contemporary Theater

Instructor: Andrew Leynse

(Artistic Director, Primary Stages)

This 5-week class is about mastering the single most valuable skill in sustaining a performance career: auditioning. On the first day, you will walk into a mock audition with a headshot, resume, and prepared monologue. This will serve as a springboard for discussion about what works and what doesn’t in the audition room. Each subsequent week, you will be coached on the hurdles of auditioning—how to take direction, tackle cold reads, and even introduce yourself to and interact with the casting team. With personalized feedback and insight into the behind-the-table perspective, you will leave this class with the ability to think on your feet, customize your material on the spot, and navigate any audition or callback with confidence and ease.
