This workshop will change the way directors, writers, and actors devise theater by asking what a play really is and incorporating the infinite possibilities for how that question can be answered into the work you will create as an ensemble. Through writing and physical exercises, you and your peers will generate source material and collaborate on the creation of small sketches and visual essays. Students will leave this workshop with a toolbox for identifying malleable inspirations in the world, integrating these stimuli into one's own work, and creating completely original theater by borrowing from and repurposing other art forms.
Students may be asked to write prior to the workshop and rehearse outside of class time. Previous knowledge of the Viewpoints technique is helpful but not required.
