BD WONG (DIRECTOR)

BD Wong most recently directed the world premiere of Mr. Holland’s Opus, the new musical, at Ogunquit Playhouse, for which he wrote the book and lyrics (composer, Wayne Barker). He directed Lauren Yee’s The Great Leap at the Pasadena Playhouse, co-produced by EastWest Players, and (with Robert Lee) co authored the 2016 La Jolla Playhouse Pop Tour production of Alice Chan, which he also directed. He directed Speak Up Connie (All For One Festival) and The Yellow Wood (NYMF), directed on the Comedy Central series Awkwafina is Nora from Queens (on which he also acts as Nora’s dad, Wally), and authored the critically acclaimed memoir “Following Foo…” (Harper). He has performed in four Broadway shows and received a Tony Award for his performance in M. Butterfly, as well as Emmy and Critic’s Choice nominations for his work in Mr. Robot. His most recent film is Netflix’ Heart of Stone. He sits on the board of trustees for the Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund), Rosie’s Theater Kids, and American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
