Billy Porter (Playwright)
Billy is a Tony Award, Grammy Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award winner for Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Lola in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Kinky Boots. Other Broadway credits include Miss Saigon, Five Guys Named Moe, Grease, Smokey Joe’s Café and Dreamgirls. Off-Broadway and regional: Angels in America, Birdie Blue, Romance in Hard Times, The Merchant of Venice, Radiant Baby, Topdog/Underdog, King Lear, The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler, Songs for a New World, Jelly’s Last Jam. His one-man show Ghetto Superstar: The Man That I Am, debuted at The Public Theater in NYC in conjunction with City Theatre of Pittsburgh and was nominated for a 2005 GLAAD Media Award.
